It has been a full week here at MTI (Missions Training International) in Palmer Lake, CO. So far we have been deep in language learning and getting snowed in during the process. Our time has been spent not so much learning Croatian but how to learn Croatian. It has been a fascinating process of learning techniques, phonetic mouth exercises, and discovery of non-English sounds.
One of the main things that has stuck out to me since being here is something our instructor Dwight told us early on. He said that the word "yet" is one of the most important words in our vocabulary. In language learning you will hear people say,"I can't get that sound right," or "I can't do it." However he refers to these as incomplete sentences. What happens when you put the word "yet" at the end? Suddenly everything changes.
I can't get that sound right....yet.
I can't do it...yet.
Yet is elastic. Yet stretches into the future. Yet allows you time. Yet brings hope. Yet gives something to work toward. Yet can be achieved.
We can apply this to far more than language learning.
I can't run a marathon.... yet.
I can't memorize that...yet.
I can't play guitar...yet.
I can't loose this weight...yet.
I can't get victory in this area of my life...yet.
What is the thing you have been say "I can't" to?
It's time to throw yet at the end of it.
